Care & Handling of Your Arbutus Arts Treasures

Care and Instructions:

To renew and restore, just add a food safe oil such as walnut oil (what we use), mineral oil or olive oil. Even better, use Nature's Wood Finish for a specatcular finish. It is our own invention as nothing existed to do justice to the wood that was completely food safe.

Because these utensils are for food use, they require a food safe finish. As you use your piece, the water will cause the wood to dry out and the grain to rise for the first few times used. Just get some extra fine sandpaper or steel wool, rub for a few seconds and then add your oil. The wood loves to be oiled and will come right back to life. Over time the arbutus wood develops a patina like finish and will be smooth to the touch. It is best to wash and dry your piece after use. Soaking not recommended.
