Arbutus is difficult to cut.

I have to prune an Arbutus tree for a friend, however I'm finding it difficult, the saw barely makes a scratch. Is there a trick or preferred tool to do this? I couldn't find much info on the net, but I bet you are the right person to ask!

Arbutus wood sure can be a tough wood especially where branches meet the trunk of the tree. It is especially hard there.

You need sharp tools for the job and if the branch is thick you may require a chainsaw to make it easy. Good tools and the right tool make all the difference.
