food safe woods
What type of wood is safe for cereal bowls?
I have two Lime wood bowls. My partner used them once for food and the finish went from smooth to rough. Is it possible these were intended to be decorative only?

Arbutus Ron here...
Wood bowls will become a bit rough after first washing them as the grain rises. Just lightly sand with very fine sandpaper, add some walnut or mineral oil and it should be fine. The wood itself is safe.
You may have to do this a couple more times but then the bowl develops a patina finish and will stay nice and smooth. Just add oil from time to time.
