How to mill a yew saw log

by rick
(Ottawa Ontario)

I recently had to remove a yew tree in my yard, in eastern Ontario that is about 60 years old. I believe it is a common Yew.

It is not a single piece of wood as there were about four main stacks in the tree.
I do not know how to go about how to decide how to have it turned into lumber properly or appropriately.

Can you assist?

thank you
Rick Phillips

Any saw mill operator would know how. Basically you cut off the outside and start making it into lumber at the size and thickness you want.

thank you kindly for your thoughts, comment.

I own 150 acres of hard wood bush and have milled wood many times using well experienced one man mill operators.

How to mill this is not so simple as the saw log is very complicated in its growth, in addition I am aware there are many artistic uses for this wood.

I could easily have it milled into 1/2 inch thick with various widths, however, I don't believe that is the best use for this. Then again maybe it is. I am not a fine carpenter or cabinet maker and wouldn't know the optimum thickness for its general use.
I am very familiar with our more typical and even some rarer woods, such as smooth skin hickory or butternut (now a protected species here) and of course, oak.. maple.. ash.. white pine ... 3/4, 4/4. 5/4 depending on the need of the day

need artists opinions NEW

Time to get some visual added and see if I can attract some artists. I would enjoy very much some artists getting this wood, as I doubt I would be looking for any compensation. It is such a rare and exotic wood for Canada

shall get some pictures up this week.
