Is urethane coating safe?

I just purchased a wooden spoon, that's made in China and has a urethane coating - is that one of the coatings you think best avoided?

It's up to you. May be fine unheated but for cooking could release some toxins. Not for me, but some folks care not about what goes down their gullet!
