It's a good question!

Arbutus tree (as it is also known) or Madrona tree wood in my opinion is a harder wood. I know that from all the cutting I do and then sanding.

It is always a bit easier on the Madone wood than the Manzanita.

That said, I find them both quite hard... it's just a question of degree. Both produce a beautiful hardwood finish.
