Painting Wooden Utensils: Food Safe?

I want to paint wooden spoons, spatulas and rolling pins and have decided to just paint the handles because I cannot find a non toxic acrylic paint anywhere.

My question is...is there a non toxic varnish out there and can it be painted over the 'toxic paint' to make the utensils safe to use and also be completely dishwasher/heat proof resistant?

I do not know of any item that would be toxin-free when heated. You need to research with different manufacturers to see if one exists.
