Raised planting beds

What would you recommend for a food-safe finish for raised garden beds at a school? Our beds were made of untreated cedar and have been lined with landscaping fabric to protect the wood. We would like to finish them to retain their beautiful color, but want to avoid anything harmful that could get into the soil. With nut allergies, walnut oil is probably not a good option for us.
