The Tree Dance

The Tree Dance

Arbutus is a living deer
sleek limbs and
pulsing velvet flesh
graceful and sure
in arced stance.

She is my guide
these days I wake
feet to the floor
sap rises
legs quiver
trunk twists
turns arms lace
fingers tremble

and life dances me
sudden still
endless spin
muscle, sinew
leaf, root
one breath
shudders the song
piercing soft.
