what kind of stain will stick?

hi all, would sure appreciate some advice. I have arbutus posts in my house, big whole trunks I mean, salvaged from a wood pile when house was built. They are 18 years old, untreated, and as hard as you can imagine... have not darkened as much as I'd hoped, but what kind of stain will penetrate them now? To make it worse, I also have to match to fir and hemlock beams and create some kind of unified look. Is it hopeless or what?

No idea... try a good paint store. They know about stains.
